Tips To Select Proper Hard drive
Thursday, March 31st, 2011 | Author:

Day by day computers are getting advanced. Capacity and performance are increasing with every passing year. This is true for the primary storage also. Latest Hard disks are getting bigger in capacity and with higher rotational speed can access the data faster. This is good news for computer users.

The digital revolution has brought with it the need to store vast amounts of data. The new Hard disks are ready to take the challenge. The good news is, these Hard disks with higher capacity are affordable. Thanks to a very competitive market and demanding consumers.

Hard disk technology is suitable for the bandwidth demands of today’s applications. The 7200 rpm hard disk drives with a minimum storage space of 40 GB and above are now more common than ever before.

The demand for storage in PCs has boomed. With a lot of multimedia files being used today, including MP3, Flash files and movies–even today’s entry level 40 GB hard disks aren’t enough for users. On the other hand, 80 – 400 GB, 7200 rpm drives are also available and are preferred by professionals.

Depending on your need, you should select the proper hard drive. Ask yourself few questions, before going for the selection of new hard drive. This strategy will be useful in long run.

Think of the following points.

Hard drive storage capacity, speed, brand and price.

First select the Hard drive storage capacity.

1) Also what software, you will loading in your computer.

2) What type of files, you will be loading.

If you are a basic computer user, go for the 40 GB hard drive which is sufficient for OS and file storage. The text files require very less storage space however multimedia files require large storage space.

If you are a gamer or a graphic designer, go for minimum 80 / 120 GB hard drive.

If you are movie or song lover who would be storing lot of movies then go for higher capacity of 240 GB depending on your budget.

Let us select the proper speed. The most common speeds which are available in the market are 5400 and 7200 RPM. The 5400 RPM means hard disk will be rotating at a speed of 5400 revolutions per minute.

Now there is not much price difference between 5400 and 7200 rpm. It is better to go for 7200 RPM hard drive.

It is better to go for standard brand. Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital, Samsung & Hitachi are the standard brands available in the market.

The above suggestions are for your internal hard drives.
If you have to carry data frequently, you can go for external hard drive. These drives can be connected to computer through USB port. There is absolutely no difference between external hard drive and internal hard drive if you consider the operation or drive mechanics. USB interface has made external hard drive installation very user friendly.

External hard drives give lot of portability. However these external hard drives have higher access time compared to desktop drive because of USB interface. But because of USB interface, CPU utilization is less in the range of 8.4 to 10. This means less load on CPU.

Iomega, Freecom, Transcend are some of the manufacturers of external hard drives. These drives require external power supply and are most suitable for desktop use. When you are selecting external hard drive, check whether the manufacturer is offering a carry bag, data cable and power supply if it is externally powered.

Also check the warranty offered by the manufacturer. Now a days, some of the manufacturers offer warranty for 3 years.

Speed Up Your Computer – Free Tips Inside!
Thursday, March 31st, 2011 | Author:

There are several things you can do to speed up your computer. As most of the clutter there is caused by you, you should be doing the clean up. Much of the information that has accumulated is all caused by your activities using the computer. You have done all sorts of things except to regularly maintain the machine. Now, it’s karma time.

To help you speed up your computer and free you from the karma that is in the form of slow booting time and slow responses, here are a few tips:

-If you really want to display nice wallpapers on your desktop, choose one that is simple because these things slow down your whole system. But, if you are ready to compromise your goal to speed up your computer with that awesome, but humongous file of a wallpaper – then, it’s your call.

-Get updated on the latest drivers from the manufacturers of graphics cards and other components of your computer. There are regular updates that you can get that will help in increasing the speed of your system.

-If there are several programs you need to use at the same time, it will help lessen RAM load if you will minimize those applications not being used.

-If you need to restart, restart Windows only and not the whole computer system. So, when restarting the PC, hold down the Shift key so that only the Windows will be restarted. That should take only a short period of time.

-Decide if you really need all those animations running in the background. Various display settings and effects have a lot to do too, with slow response time.

-To speed up your computer some more, try to lower the resolution of your display.

-Perform a defragmentation procedure regularly so that your hard drive will be physically arranged. That will allow faster access to information.

-Let your PC take a nap by prompting the Sleep command instead of shutting it down, if you have to be out for a while.

-Lessen the number of programs that run during start-up. These applications are major contributors to why you are now longing to speed up your computer. Check which applications you can disable or uninstall altogether. That way you can free your start-up routine with lesser programs to launch and you free up spaces in your hard drive too

-In Windows 98, stretching of the wallpaper actually slows down Windows especially when you are dragging icons around on your desktop.

-Your RAM capacity matters a lot in order to speed up your computer. Upgrade this component and you will experience faster processing with your computer. (Granted that you also have cleaned up all your clutters).

-Free up some space in your hard drive. There should be at least 20 to 30 percent of vacant space in there to help the entire system in accessing your hard drive for information faster.

-Clean up the mess in your registry by downloading registry cleaners from the Internet.

Small Business Computer Support Tips
Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 | Author:

If you have or operate a small business then you know how difficult it can be to get quality small business computer support that is reliable and cost efficient. Large corporations have the resources to throw money at in house IT departments. The truth of the matter is that you and your compnay are probebly superior off.

Outsourcing your small business technology needs has a number of advantages not available with full time in house departments. Although there are also positives to having a dedicated staff, these are greatly outweighed by outsourcing your business computer repair and support to a outstanding IT company that you can outsource.

The worst thing an owner of a small business can do is neglect the importance of getting IT support from professionals. Your brother in law who “knows his way around a computer” is simply not going to be able to meet the needs inherent in running a small business in 2010.

A good IT organization will be able to catch most issues before they become full blown issues and can prevent disasters before they start. In addition, having access to firm that offers small business computer support allows you to train and educate yourself and your employs on the proper ways to work on the computer and online so that mistakes are not made that could be very costly (for example Fred in sales opening that email with the virus that infected the entire office etc.).

In the United States, businesses expend regarding $200 billion a year on technology related products and services. This is no small chunk of change for your typical small business owner, and the effects on financials can be devastating.

By outsourcing you small business technology you enjoy the following benefits.

- The all to familiar problem of needed tech support but at the same time your guy is on vacation is removed b/c with the support of a business, there is always backup. By spreading the responsibility, you can be extremely confident someone will be there to help you when you need it.

-Using an outsourced IT business also means you have access to a wide range of experts in individual fields that would cost tons of money were you to hire each expert separately. This lets you tap into resources for a variety of tasks like phone support, anti-virus and other Internet security systems, computer network maintenance or even data backup.

-Rather than having the overhead of full time employees, outsourcing allows you to frequently pay a relatively low monthly fee, saving thousands (plus a lot less paperwork).

Now that we have talked regarding the benefits of outsourcing your small business computer support, here is some tips to cut costs and how to make sure you are choosing the correct small business technology service provider.

- Try and buy all of your gear at the same time and from the same vendor. Standardizing your platforms allows for quicker fixes which means lowers costs. Also, when you buy everything together you make sure that everyone has the same version or update, Nothing is worse than running into compatibility issues when working with colleagues.

-Make sure the IT company you go with provides 24/7 support. This is simply a must as disasters don’t care about business hours and will strike at the worst times completely ruining your day, your week, or even worse.

-See if the potential firm offers a wide arrange of services or if it deal primarily with only certain aspects of business technology.

Hopefully by now you realize how essential it is to yourself and your business that you have a legitimate, dedicated small business technology provider. You should also be well versed in how to pick the best firm for your specific company have an understanding of the benefits of outsourcing your companies IT services.

Many computer users are worried about their computer’s performance. After spending lot of bucks, still they cannot have that charm of using PC as they had expected. Here I am going to explain some major tricks which are used by many computer users which help them to take efficient use of their CPU.

These tips could be of little importance for people who are already using processors with speed more than 2400 MHz but people using computer with less speed and little older mother boards and processors will enjoy these tips. They will realize significant increase in their computer’s performance.

Here are these tips:

1. Operating system choice:

You will be amazed to know that your choice of choosing right windows or operating system could play a significant role on your CPU’s performance. For example if you are given 5 bricks to carry them to next apartment and then 10 bricks to do same. Think how would be your performance if compared with both situations. Obviously you would perform well when carrying only 5 bricks.

Same is the case with Microsoft windows. The lighter the windows you have, higher the performance will be shown. Now this does not mean that you should install Windows 95. Here is the order of Windows weight: Windows XP (any addition) > Windows 2000 > Windows Me > Windows 98 (the lightest one). So if you have Pentium 4 with good ram then I would recommend you to use Microsoft Windows XP. People using Pentium 3 computers could use windows 2000 or if they have ram more than 256 MB then they can use windows XP too. All other lower speed users should use windows ME or 98.

You would have to compromise between speed and quality. You can decide now which operating system you should use now.

2. Partitions:

Before starting this topic I would like to give you a simple example. Suppose in one case if 100 items are placed in a house having only 2 rooms and you are required to find item no. 89, from second room. You will have to scroll through 50 items in room two to find item 89. In other case if same 100 items are placed in house having 4 rooms and you are required to find item 89 from room 2 then you would have to scroll through only 25 items present in that room and you would spend less time.

Same is the case here for partitions. If you are having more number of partitions, it would help your windows more to find required data easily from your hard disk, when you run any file or program. I would advice you to have more partitions each having at least 5 GB memory and maximum 20 GB.

You should be very careful while partitioning your hard drive and believe me many people make mistakes when they partition hard disk and lose all of their important data. Here is a free resource Windows Setup Installation Guide that can help you to learn about partitioning, formatting hard disks and installing windows.

3. Defragment Your Hard disks:

Your partitions become more fragmented when you create or delete folders, save new files, delete or move them and they become scattered on you hard drive and as time passes, windows become slower and slower due to time needed by the system to find required file on hard disk. You can learn more about why volumes become fragmented by using “Disk Defragmenter” Help.

My main point is that your computer becomes lazy with time. I am sure many of you have observed that after installing windows, computer become slower gradually with time. So I would strongly recommend you that you use Disk Defragmenter regularly, at least a week. I know it is quite boring process but while taking bath, lunch start it. Believe me you will feel the difference later.

4. Frequency of Changing Windows:

I would like you to compare the difference between speeds of your computer when you freshly installed windows and now. I know your answer! Obviously now you will be feeling your PC lazier than before.

This is all due to many factors such as file fragmentation; increasing of windows registry size, increase in number of files and folders in your primary partition and also because of some viruses and spy wares.

I would strongly suggest you that you should reinstall windows after formatting your primary partition at least every 3 months. That will keep your computer always efficient. Many people think that formatting hard drive is not good. That is almost a wrong illusion. Formatting your partition every 3 months and installing fresh copy of windows will considerably increase your computer’s performance. Same website Windows Installation Guide could help you regarding this matter.

5. My last tip:

Finally do not save junk, programs, movies, games and almost anything you can on your windows partition that is usually C: and believe me your computer would show optimal performance for longer time and provide fewer errors.

It is better you make your “My Documents” folder in other drive than C: as well as make also Program Files folder so install everything like Microsoft office e.t.c there not in windows installation drive. Do it and feel the difference.

Always check for your programs which automatically run at startup and use your computer’s significant resources. Try to disable them carefully and feel the change in performance. Here is a way to check which programs and processes start automatically when windows starts.
Go to START->Run then type “MSCONFIG” then you can see which your memory consuming programs are.
If you do not want to do anything above and want shorter way with shorter improvements then create new user account and delete previous one. You will observer a slighter change and this also removes many errors if present in windows.

If you cannot even do this then why you wasted your time by reading this article and do something else ;)

I have tried my best to show all possible ways that could help you all to improve your computer performance.

Watch WWE Judgment Day On Your Computer Or Laptop
Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 | Author:

WWE Judgment Day is an annual professional wrestling event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment. It was first held in October 1998 as an In Your House event. It replaced Over the Edge after the 1999 event, which saw the death of Owen Hart. In 2000, WWE Judgment Day became the annual May event which followed Backlash. From 2004 to 2006, the event was exclusive to the SmackDown brand.

This year, WWE Judgment Day is set to be held on May 18, 2008 at the Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska and will feature talents from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands.

The highlighted feud heading into the event is between Triple H and Randy Orton, with the two feuding over the WWE Championship. At the previous event, Backlash, Triple H eliminated Randy Orton in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match which also involves John Cena and John “Bradshaw” Layfield (JBL). As a result, he won the WWE Championship. On the following night on Raw, General Manager William Regal stopped a title match between Orton and Triple H, and booked the two in a Steel Cage match for the WWE Championship at J-Day. It is going to be an exciting event and I will be sure not to miss it.

For those who do not have satellite TV or cable TV at home, a good alternative will be to watch the live actions using PC or laptop. Nowadays, with LCD TVs becoming more common, you can even plug your PC or laptop to the LCD TV and enjoy live sporting action on big screen.

For those who might be out of town or are expecting to work late in the office but still want to catch the live wrestling scenes in WWE Judgment Day, watching it live on computer or laptop is the way to go.

How do you do that? Use satellite TV on PC software. The software only charge a one-time fee of no more than $50 and users can enjoy live TV subsequently, for free, for life.

George Tho is a fan of wrestling matches. Read his review on a satellite TV software that will allow you to catch live actions of WWE Judgment Day on your computer or laptop plus thousands of other channels here.

With developments in science and technology being made everyday, it is only natural to address how these developments affect society, their good and their evil. Most of the time society has the biggest say in any scientific or technological advancement. It holds the final answer in deciding whether a developed technology is beneficial or it can be done without. But before addressing this let us first examine the central question; why study science and technology?

Since the dawn of formal learning, the goal has been to make technological advancements and generally improve life. That is where modern science came in. Inquiries into life have given forth physics astronomy and life sciences. Science is a field that grows relatively everyday and there is always an area that demands scientific intervention. And that is where the technology comes in. It is developed to ease the process of investigation and the final result is something that improves the quality of living or a discovery is made. The role science and technology has played in the field of medicine cannot be understated and the breakthroughs that have been made have been astonishing. In all other areas of life, from e-learning to e-shopping to space travel, it has been credited to continued use of science. However in all these attempts to improve human life, their effects on society and the individual must be better understood by non-technical professionals and ordinary citizens as well as by engineers and scientists. So why study science and technology?

Boundaries have to be set on what is right and what is downright wrong. This is where activists come in and defend the use of animals in research. If society is not to be inquired in this kind of undertaking, a point maybe reached where humans would be the subjects of research especially in the field of medicine. Because of issues of morality and professional ethics lawyers, public officials, civil servants, and business people are increasingly called upon to make decisions requiring a basic understanding of science and technology and their ethical, social, and environmental consequences. Ordinary citizens, moreover, are being asked with increasing frequency to pass judgment on controversial matters of public policy related to science and technology. These circumstances require education befitting the complex sociotechnical character of the contemporary era.

The study of science technology and society has helped map out guidelines for professional boundaries. This study acts as a reference point for most scientists on what is ethically or morally wrong and what is allowed. In medicine especially, the role is most essential and unnecessary dilemmas in some medical cases for instance, use of life support for terminally ill patients are avoided. This study gives rise to a new group of professionals known as interdisciplinarians who study the short and long term effects of science and technology from a community to a global level. Why study science technology and society? To find common ground in addressing all scientific and cultural issues.

Tips to Buy a Computer

If you have decided to go in for a brand new computer, this might be a daunting task. There are so many things that need to be considered. If you a new entrant into the world of computers, this could be even more daunting. Apart from choosing the best configuration, you are also faced with the task of ensuring that your computer does not start giving you a headache as soon as you bring it home.

When you plan to go in for a new computer, you will need a good checklist so that you get it right. The following are some good buying computer tips.

1. Define your budget and plan how much you are going to spend. When you set a budget, prepare for flexibility, since there might be marginal differences between what you plan for and what you actually get.

2. Decide the uses of the computer. Once you are clear about what you are going to use it for, you will be able to get a better idea of what components you will need to get fitted in. You do not need to go in for every component in the market and make a hole in your savings, just under the tag of “latest configuration”.

3. Plan for the future is one among the top buying computer tips. Remember that technology is ever changing. Therefore, you might need to upgrade your computer as time goes by. Ensure that when you get your computer, it allows you to upgrade it.

4. Balance out the performance of the machine. This is often overlooked when a person buys a new computer. Quite often, people are so obsessed with the latest processor, that they forget to check on how much memory they need to get that processor performing perfectly. This will, in turn, lead to major headaches later on in time.

5. One of the most important buying computer tips is to get the proper software bundled into the computer and good post sales support. This is especially useful if you are not tech savvy. In these instances, all major software will come pre-installed with your machine, and you will just need to switch it on to use. In the even if your having any issues, there will always be support available to resolve your issues.

6. Ensure that the components you get are of good quality. There are many people who have their own local makes of hardware. While these come at a lower price, they prove to be costlier in the long run. Therefore, go in for quality components as this will save money for you as well as reduce the chances of your computer crashing.

7. Maintain a backup of your computer in the case of any crashes. This can be done if you have a disk drive. You can also get a backup disk at the point of purchase of your computer.

8. Shop around for the best deals. It is unwise to step into a shop and try to buy the best that they have. Remember that not all computers cost the same in all places. Therefore, try to get a better bargain and a better offer before you settle on just one.

Tips For Buying a Home Computer
Monday, March 28th, 2011 | Author:

When buying a home computer or upgrading to a new model, there are a few things to consider. Here are four helpful tips for buying a home computer that will serve your technological needs.

Know what you want

Before you shop, know what functions you’ll want to perform on your computer. A computer that will primarily be used for word processing and web browsing doesn’t need to be as powerful as a computer used for gaming or media manipulation. Knowing what you want will help you avoid over-spending for features you don’t need or won’t ever use.

Think ahead

Technology becomes obsolete quickly in today’s market, so think ahead when buying a home computer. Read the hardware specifications for each model you consider. Make sure to invest in a machine that will do what you want it to do for at least the next several years without needing a replacement or pricey upgrades.

Read reviews

Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, take time to read product reviews. Do Internet searches for the machines you’re thinking of buying and see what experiences other people have had with them. Find out what the customer service for any given company is like and if their products have any known issues. This can help you avoid costly repairs in the future.

Ask questions

If there is something about the computer you’re looking at that you don’t understand, don’t be afraid to ask. Stores that sell desktop and laptop machines often have knowledgeable staff who will be able to answer your questions and many online retailers offer live chat assistance. A new computer is a big investment, so understanding what you’re about to buy is important.

Be sure to compare features, quality, and price as well as the warranty before buying a home computer. This will ensure that you get the most for your investment and that you will have a machine that truly meets your needs.

There are several ways you can look at computer graphics. But no matter which way you do it all comes down to graphics are what makes a website stand out, or graphics are what makes your computer game so real looking. Or perhaps even your graphics card that is in your computer might be what you are talking about. As a definition computer graphics is considered a sub-field of computer science, it studies methods of digitally synthesizing and or manipulating visual content. Although the term computer graphics will often refer to three-dimensional computer graphics, it will also include those two dimensional graphics and image processing.

Graphics as a term covers a wide area. Computer graphics is a very sought after career choice nowadays too! If you love to draw and are good at it computer graphics would be a great choice for a career for you, look into it. The field grows everyday, look at all the films that come out now with strictly computer graphics, Madagascar, The Bee Movie, and Kung Fu Panda are just a few. Not long ago that was unheard of, nor if it was done the graphics were one or two dimensional and not that good. Now though the 3-D graphics that are put out are so life-like.

One of the first computer graphic or computer animation displays was seen in Futureworld in 1979, on the movie a computer created hand and face was displayed. We’ve come a long way since this time, as stated above movies come out ever day that are completely computer animated.

Graphics are used in computer software games and also other games, such as Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Wii. If you go back and look at say Madden ’98 and compare the graphics on that game to Madden ’08 it’s amazing the lengths they have come in such a short amount of time. Heck to even see a leap in a shorter amount of time get a copy of Madden ’05 and compare that too the ’08 version of the same game, in the short three years between the games the graphics are so amazingly different that it’s mind boggling. It’s not only sports games that have advanced far ahead of its processors, all types of games have catapulted to new levels with the technological advances of computer graphics.

How about all the fantasy role playing games you can play online in mass now? These are designed by computer programmers and computer graphics specialist. Everyday they advance the graphics by creating updates that are immediately available for online game players. If you’ve seen these back when they first come out and compare them to today, it’s so amazing. Really computer graphics is a high technology field that is used in so many ways.

So next time you load up that game and you see the sweat coming off of one of the players because the graphics are so advanced, tip your hat to all those amazing people who work on computer graphics.
