How Technology Improves Our Lives
Monday, April 11th, 2011 | Author:

Many people do not realize just how much technology that they use each and every day. We are a world that is literally run off of the technology that we have created over the past 100 years. As the years have gone by, technology that progressed and we have been able to live our lives a whole lot easier. Here are a few ways that you can take a look at technology and truly see how it can improve your life.

Many people look for the technology that will help make life just a little bit easier. This is the type of technology such as cell phones, vehicles, computers that we use each and every day. Most of use cannot go a day without talking or texting someone on our phones. Others need to use the computer on a daily basis in order to get work done or advance within their school field. The modern car today is not just for driving; now there are vehicles that are called “mobile devices” rather than cars. All of this type of technology combined helps to make life go by a bit faster and easier.

Once you have the entertainment technology, you need to look towards the medicinal technology. Years ago there was no treatment for some of the most basic sicknesses that we encounter today. Surgeries are done a lot more quickly with the help of technology and equipment that makes the process faster. The technology that is developed over the next few years is designed to save lives and keep the health rate up. We are finding faster ways to create treatments for new illnesses and ways to keep people alive during tough surgeries. Most people do not realize just how much technology within medicine has advanced until they actually need help.

The gaming world is something that some are incredibly familiar with. There are all sorts of gaming consoles that you can purchase and play today. Nintendo has come back with some excellent technology within the Nintendo Wii. This is an interactive gaming console that seems to truly be in a league all on its own. Of course the PS3 has been released and people were all over that technology as well. This is a niche that is made up of smaller niches. Each person uses a different piece of gaming technology and will not use anything else. Now, gaming technology is being applied to your cell phones so that you can now make calls, send texts, check emails and play some of the latest games around.

Within the next two years we are going to see a lot more advancements within the world of technology. The way that we get around through life is much different than it ever was 10 years ago. Make sure that you keep your eyes peeled for any new technology within these main technological facets. You may be surprised by what you will find in the years to come.

Computer Recycling – The Hazards of Landfills
Sunday, April 10th, 2011 | Author:

What happens to your old computers, monitors, keyboards, mouse etc once you’ve upgraded to the latest model, are you just taking them to the local landfill?. This article will outline the hazards with computer recycling and what should be done with your old computers once you have upgraded.

What’s the big deal anyway the old computers can just go out with all our other rubbish. The biggest concern is with CRTs and the monitors they contain approximately 4 pounds of lead per unit. The lead cannot be physically broken down like other waste and over time the whole landfill will become contaminated from the lead toxin’s.

I think we know all the dangers associated with lead poisoning and the health problems that can occur including:

o Learning disabilities
o Behaviour problems
o High doses of lead has been present
o Seizures
o Comma
o Death

If that’s not enough there is also lead toxins seeping into local streams from the computers being dumped at the local landfill, no wonder the planet is in dire need of repair.

The right way to dispose of these environmental hazards is to check with your community to see if there is a program set up to receive older CRTs and TVs for recycling. Where I live there is a central point where we could go to drop of all our old computers and electronic gadgets that we no longer wanted or needed.

No matter what the item is that you want to recycle, there is a way to do it, all you need to do is make a phone call or two and you will have done your part to follow the recycling laws, and do your bit to help clean up the planet. So that about raps up this article, next time you upgrade to that brand new computer do the right thing and recycle that old computer and any unwanted gadgets.

It is quite surprising how little that we all know about the technology that we use every day. Whether it’s our automobile, our microwave, or our personal computer, we have surprisingly little knowledge of how the internals of the products we own actually work. For instance, you’re most likely pressing on the keys of your keyboard at this very moment, and utilizing your mouse to move the cursor around, yet you don’t have a clue how the signals actually get sent to your computer, and how the computer processes the information. Simply because you are so familiar with them, you may never consider them in their essential form as highly sophisticated personal computer hardware. And there are entire arrays of component and subcomponents that you will never see, all whirring and operating in the background where we never notice.

But our advanced computer technology does come to our attention when things don’t quite work the way they should. In particular, we notice when our computer is running very slowly right at the most crucial times when we need it to run quickly. The way to prevent this type of situation is of course to always purchase the highest quality and most state-of-the-art computer hardware that we can afford. I know you’re saying that you’re not a computer professional, so you don’t need the most expensive highest-quality components in your computer. This is a perfectly reasonable assessment. But the difference between high-quality components and shoddy components is often times surprisingly smaller than you expect. The maxim is true, you do get what you pay for. That being said, you do not need to buy the most ridiculously expensive computer hardware available on the market. Just make sure you try to stick with name brands whenever possible, and to buy from reputable shops and dealers. Big-name stores are usually good bets. Try not to compromise on the quality of essential components such as memory chips and hard drives, which tend to have high failure rates relative to other computer components.

And just because you paid a lot for a computer part doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work flawlessly. Be careful of unscrupulous dealers who overcharge you on inexpensive parts. It is also possible for any component, even a quality component from a reputable company, to fail suddenly without reason. That is the nature of technology today. The good news is, if any part fails, it usually fails within the first few days of operation. That means that you are typically covered under warranty, or you can simply take it back to the shop for an exchange.

Nowadays, the best deals on computer hardware can of course be found on the Internet. You do not even need to leave your house to buy computer parts anymore. Computer hardware websites or so commonplace and successful these days, that it’s probably your best bet for locating and buying the parts that you need. It is also very convenient to do quick comparison shopping to get the lowest price and to make sure you’re not getting ripped off. Consider your budget carefully whenever buying new computer parts. Try to go for the highest quality parts that you can afford. It is understood that computers quickly become obsolete in this day and age, but that applies mainly for gamers and power users. If you mainly surf the web and do some word processing, a good computer comprised of quality parts can easily serve you well for five years or more.

Solve Your Computer Hardware Problems
Saturday, April 09th, 2011 | Author:

In this article I am going to give you a quick guide on troubleshooting hardware problems. A lot of problems can usually be fixed my changing a few simple settings, updating a driver or reinstalling a program.

First things first. Make sure all the cables are in firmly and are not faulty, also make sure any add-in cards such as graphics cards are firmly pressed in and if needs be take them out and re seat them.

Try doing a virus or spyware scan, even though it may appear that a piece of hardware is causing the problem, viruses can also cause blue screens and annoying messages. A good free program to run though would be Malwarebytes.

Another main problem can be out dated drivers or software. Try going to the manufacturers website and downloading the latest packages. These can almost always be found in the download or support area of the website.

If you think you know what piece of hardware is causing the problem try changing it for another. For example recently I had a computer which every time it tried to burn a movie or any songs to a disk it would blue screen, I swapped out the drive an replaced for another and hey presto! It worked fine after that.

Try testing individual pieces of hardware. There is a lot of free software that can test your hardware for you. Simply set it off and see if any errors come up, these can all be found on Google and some of the best ones I have come across are:

- Ultimate Boot CDA massive amount of free testing tools including hard drive, memory and graphics testing software.

- MemtestA memory testing piece of software.

- SpeedFanWill show you the temperature of you CPU, GPU and hard drive to make sure your computer is not over heating.

Particularly for those who use the internet there is dire need of being careful and using these tips. This is for the reason that as soon as you get online, you are exposed to numerous threats such as viruses, spy ware, hackers etc. All these have potential threats for your computer which means they can damage some files or your entire system. However, computer security tips allow you to remain safe from such issues and work in a secure environment.

Here are some tips which will ensure you can use your computer without any problems.

Firstly, the most important computer security tip is to have anti virus software. These programs will not let your data be lost in case some viruses enter your system. They make backup files as well which allows you to retrieve any files that you lose. However, make sure that the anti virus you use is good software. Do not settle for any substandard program for it may harm your PC instead of doing any good to it.

Another very important point pertaining to computer security is that you should not open attachments with emails which you receive from unknown senders. Many of these emails are intended with the purpose of transferring viruses into your system. They can damage your files or the entire computer so better not open them.

Using strong passwords is also a very important tip to secure your computer. You should use long passwords with a mixture of digits and alphabets so that they cannot be easily hacked. Furthermore, you should not allow many people to access your system. Only a few trusted people may have access to your PC so that it may not be misused. It is also important to have firewall protection as they protect your system from hacker.

Laptop or notebook computer technology is advancing at
a blistering speed. Ferrari fast. So fast that by the time
you purchase your new laptop, it’s probably already
obsolete or out of date. A sobering thought considering
the hefty prices you have to pay for a high-end laptop.

But laptop technology is changing so fast new innovations
are coming on stream as you read this article. There is a
whole new generation of notebook technology every two years
or less. Therefore, unless you buy or upgrade your laptop
each year you’re falling behind what these sleek little
powerhouses can now deliver.

And unless you’re already in Geek Heaven, keeping track
of all these new technologies and innovations can be
quite a chore. Figuring out the right Graphics chipset
that works best with the right CPU and the best Data buses
is a major feat. And now that everything is being
Doubled — dual core, dual graphics — it’s entering
the realm where Einstein would be amused, even on a
bad hair day!

What’s the ordinary laptop buyer to do?

What you really have to keep in mind are the outcomes
of all this new technology. Basically, these new
technologies have made laptops smaller, faster and more
powerful. With every new improvement the laptop is closing
the gap between its main rival — the desktop computer.

Notebook computers are now out-selling desktops for
the first time in history. Laptops are replacing the
old desktop computer, whose days may just be numbered.
It won’t be long before laptops are also out-performing
them as well.

Some major computer makers are taking note of this
trend towards more powerful, smaller computers.
Even the desktop computer is morphing! Just look at
the sleek design of the new Apple iMac G5, gone is the
bulky tower, in its place is a well designed desktop
computer that’s almost a laptop!

For the ordinary computer user keeping abreast of
all these new technologies and inventions can be a
major chore if you’re considering buying a laptop
in the next little while. As you approach the smiling
salesperson in your favorite tech store, here’s a
few bits of new notebook technology you might want
to have in your possession so you won’t look like a
complete neophyte. Hey, where technology is concerned,
we have all been there, done that.

In order for you to tech-proof your next laptop
purchase, here’s a quick run down of some recent
Notebook Developments:

Sonoma Chipset

The new Sonoma Platform, Intel’s next-generation Centrino
Chipset is already on the market. Members of the Sonoma
club are growing daily – Sony, IBM/Lenovo, BenQ, Dell,
Samsung, Acer, and Toshiba… another 80 or 90
‘Sonoma-endowed’ products will be released very shortly.

No doubt, it will become the Platform standard for many
high-end notebooks. Actually, it won’t make or mean that
much difference to the ordinary Joe/Jane who just want a
notebook or laptop for web surfing, word processing and
e-mail. Notebooks with the Sonoma Platform will be just
a little bit faster and have a little better battery life.

But for Mobile Professionals and Notebook Fanatics (they
do exist)… there’s a lot of good things delivered or
capable of being delivered with this new Centrino Chipset.
First, wireless connections will be easier with the integrated
tri-mode 802.11a/b/g, already dubbed by some as the
‘wireless trinity’! This will make it easier to stay
connected no matter where you are.

Improved performance will be experienced because the
new Pentium M’s have a 533MHz frontside bus, supported
with up to 2GB of DDR2 DRAM, Serial ATA Hard Drive, and
PCI Express, plus improved integrated graphics, including
Intel’s Hi-Def Audio. All are possible with the Sonoma
Platform.

PCI Express

PCI(Peripheral Component Interconnect) Express is a new
standard for expansion cards that comes in different
versions. Presently, we have the x16 and x1 lanes, which
will be followed by x4 and x8 versions. It offers increased
bandwidth for example, x1 lane offers 500MB/sec instead of
just 133MB/sec for PCI.

All computers, including laptops have different buses,
(collection of wires) that transmit data from one component
to another.

Of course, in an ideal world, all the data in your computer
should move thru just one BUS – however, most experts agree
it’s not likely to happen unless we start over and build a
computer system from scratch. For now we have to rely on
different internal buses to move the data around, the
PCI Express is a great improvement and will make your
laptop faster.

Graphics Card

These are always improving. A Graphics Card handles the
graphics or visuals on your notebook. If 3D graphics and
games is a pastime, you will want to buy the highest
quality system. Some of the higher end products are:
ATi Mobility Radeon 9800, X800, and FireGL V3200 or
Intel’s Graphics Media Accelerator 900.

If you can, go with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 graphics
card or for the real game diehards – wait for the debut
of NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 that features NVIDIA’s TurboCache
technology.

Gamers will be aware of NVIDIA SLI technology, ATI’s
CrossFire and Hyperthreading. All new stuff that’s
bringing the gaming experience up to a higher level of
perfection that would even be worthy of a Spielberg or
a Lucas Production. Not really, but it’s getting there.

64 Bit Laptops

Most systems today run on the 32 Bit System. Keep in mind,
the major difference between a 32-bit and a 64-bit system
is the amount of memory that they support. Around 4 GB for
32-bit and 8 GB and up for the 64-bit. Right now — Intel,
Apple, and AMD all offer 64-bit systems.

Do you need all this memory? No, for the average laptop
user it amounts to overkill. However, if you’re interested
in gaming, desktop publishing, or the graphic arts you will
benefit from 64-bit technology.

Dual Core Notebooks

Two is better than one!

Dual core laptops are now on the market. The gaming industry
is the starting point for many of these advanced systems.
For example, the British Laptop maker Rockdirect now produces
Xtreme 64, a gaming laptop with AMD’s new dual core Athlon 64
X2 processor. This same laptop also sports the ATI Mobility
Radeon X800 XT graphics card that features 16 pixel pipelines,
an industry first for notebooks.

The major producers of dual-core chips are Intel and AMD.
The Intel dual-core processor has hyperthreading (HT), the
two cores are divided into four virtual CPU units. Is all this
needed? Again, if you’re into heavy graphics or gaming, it’s
something you should consider and explore further.

Built-in Cellular Modem

Most high-end laptops now come with an integrated
tri-mode 802.11a/b/g for wireless WI-FI connections.

Some recent models, like the Sony’s New Ultra-Portable
VAIO VGN-T350P, are raising the bar; it has the world’s
first ‘Built-in Cellular Modem’. You can use your cell phone
to connect to the Internet. This may be a great advantage
since finding a ‘Hot Spot’ in some parts of the world can
still be difficult.

The Avant-Garde: LumiLED Display

Be on the look-out for LED monitors in the near future.
The brightness, colors and backlighting technology in LED
monitors will be quite different from LCD displays.

The Forerunner in this field is NEC’s SpectraView LumiLED,
and will offer a much better image and color.
Keep your eyes peeled.

On the Horizon:

19 or 20 Inch Laptop Screens

There is a rumor, only a rumor, that Dell is coming out
with a 19-inch laptop in early 2006. There is also buzz
that LG-Philips has a 20-inch LCD panel which could easily
be used by laptop makers if they want to explore this
market area. Andre the giant will be pleased!

Conclusion

Of course, there are many more laptop innovations in
the pipeline but they’re beyond the scope of this article.
Just keep all these new technological notebook changes in
mind when you’re checking out your next laptop. Maybe,
just maybe, most of these won’t already have been replaced
by something new by the time you buy your next laptop.
But don’t bet your Google Stocks on it!

Remove Viruses From Your Computer – Tips and Tricks
Friday, April 08th, 2011 | Author:

Removing a computer virus in your computer can be a scary task.

Even the most experience computer tech might have a difficult challenges without the right software.

Technology has revolutionized the way we see the world. We are now able to have a conversation virtually face-to-face with someone in the other side of the world via messenger absolutely free.

Personal computers (PCs) since its introduction to the public in the mid 80s have changed our lives. Allowing the public to automate daily task, personal computers (PCs) have become critical tools to our everyday life.

However, since the birth of the internet for public usage back in the mid-late 90s, hackers have found a breeding ground.

Hackers are software developers that create programs to attack computer systems. One the most sophisticated software ever developed focuses on disabling antivirus programs by attacking PC’s registry (PC database). Once antivirus software is disabled in a persona computer, it becomes an easy target for any attack. Hijack programs are responsible for scanning your computer for any credit card information stored in your computer or internet browser (including credit card transactions, online banking password and ID, etc).  But, what is spyware and how dangerous is it?  Spyware (hijack programs) are automatically installed in your computer without the users’ consent and many times users are deceived to allow the programs to automatically install while surfing the internet.

The source of spyware can be an email, an infected internet page, or even an infected CD that installs information into your computer.

Spyware attacks in your computer can ruin your computer, your financial status, steal your identity, and use your computer as a hijack system to attack other computers.  It’s recommended to keep your antivirus up date and never open emails that you might not recognize, since emails with attachments are the easier way for spyware to access your computer.   What are the symptoms?

While accessing the internet do you experience?

- Slow page download – Pop-ups

- Sudden freeze (Computer won’t respond)

- Blue Screen with white letters (known as the blue screen of death)

- Computer won’t respond after you turn it on.

Any of these symptoms might indicate that your system might be hijacked and it’s recommend that you take to any computer repair place (which can be very pricey). Also, not following the correct steps can endanger your personal information such as or credit cards, or online banking login information.   Also, it’s recommended that you find a good program that can cure your registry. THE REGISTRY IS THE MOST HEART AND MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR COMPUTER!! Good software will remove the spyware from the registry and remove any threats.

Hope my article provided you with helpful information

Good luck and stay safe.

Having a security camera system installed in your home is a great thing as it brings a new level of safety and peace of mind for you and your family. However, one hurdle you are going to face is how to monitor your camera when you go away on vacation or on a business trip. In this article you are going to learn about home security camera computer monitoring software that will allow you check your camera from any computer in the world with an Internet connection.

Surveillance technology has changed a lot over the years from the days when it was only used by companies with very, very deep pockets. It is now commonplace to have your own security camera at home for the purpose of keeping your property and family safe. However, the solution to the problem of not being able to monitor your camera remotely in a cost-effective and easy manner has only just been addressed.

Home security camera computer software will allow you to check your camera system’s video feed safely and securely from any computer that has a functioning Internet connection. The premise is rather simple; you simply create an account with which you can log in over the Internet and check in real time the feed from your camera.

The applications of being able to do this are almost limitless in scope; if a neighbor reports any suspicious activity on your property you can check it out from the other side of the world, for example. Or, you can check up on your nanny/babysitter and make sure they’re doing a proper job.

Occurrences of computer misuse have risen dramatically in recent times with rapid advancements in information technology. Many people who misuse computers assume that because of the vast number of PCs and laptops used around the world every day that they are safe from conviction of computer misuse.

However, when computer misuse is detected, the computer needs to be securely seized and taken away for analysis. Experts in computer forensics can analyse the digital trail left during computer misuse much to the surprise of the perpetrator.

It is vital that, when misuse is suspected, the computer in questions is quarantined until it can be examined by an expert in computer forensics. . Data and serious evidence can be lost if an unqualified person tries analyse the digital trail so it is always advised that a professional forensic team be called.

There are numerous ways in which a computer can be misused. There are many high profile cases involving, for example, indecent images, but blackmail, identity theft, fraud and drug related offences could be traced through computer forensics.

Deleted files can be retrieved through a process of precise extraction. Done so by a professional it can reveal robust evidence that can be used for convictions both civil and criminal.

Reputable computer forensic companies can provide the most appropriate – and proportionate – service for any case that may need evidence extracted from a computer. They have experts in the field of digital forensics who know where to look and how to safely and precisely extract evidence from computers, without damaging this fragile data. Using a computer forensics company without the appropriate standards, accreditations, training and security can render your digital evidence unreliable.

Just like other elements of a legal investigation, computer forensics teams have strict procedures to follow and it isn’t as simple as seizing a computer and extracting potentially harmful files. It is important that the process is done correctly and follows strict guidelines so the evidence can be used effectively within a conviction and justice can be served.

“Technology… is a queer thing. It brings you great gifts with one hand, and it stabs you in the back with the other. ” ~C.P. Snow

It’s an accepted fact that hard drives are the weakest link in computer technology. The hard disk is where the operating system and all software applications are stored. Because of this, a properly working drive is essential in the operation of any computer.

But since these drives are basically just an electro-mechanical devices, and like any other machine they will eventually breakdown and fail.

And then oops, without backups, all your family photos, legal documents and important emails are gone!

There are three levels of data or file recovery for a dying or broken hard drive:

1) Basic Level: The drive is working (your can hear it spin up but it will not boot to Windows)

This usually means that some essential Windows files have been comprised or damaged in some way. With the right software you can view your files and even copy them. You have to choices…

Use a Rescue CD: You can grab a bootable CD with hard drive utility software already installed on it. You can then make repairs or copy your files from your bad drive to a replacement. A good name brand rescue CD for Windows is the “Ultimate Boot CD”

Move the Drive: If you don’t have a way of burning a rescue CD and don’t want to wait for a copy to shipped to you; you can always move your bad drive and place it in another working desktop PC. Once installed you should be able to view all your files on the drive from a secondary slot (normally where the CD or DVD drive live.)

2) Intermediate Level: The drive works but you can’t see the files you want using the methods above.

Okay, things are not going good. You at this point have to get out the big guns. You will have to download and run a data recovery program such as “Active UNDELTE”, “Recover My Files”, etc. Both of these programs are powerful, reliable, and easy to use and won’t cost you an arm or a leg to buy.

With Active UNDELETE you can also make a bootable CD to run on a PC if you can’t move the drive to another computer. Both have technical support options if you need further help.

3) Advanced Level: You have tried everything above but you still can’t find that Last Will from Aunt Sue…

At this point you have probably spent several hours (if not days) without your PC and invested just over a $100 in software if you used all of the above products. Now, is the time for you to decide to either use a professional level recovery application or throw in the towel and take your drive to a recovery specialist.

If you have the time but not a lot of cash (understand that hard drive recovery services can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars) then you can ratchet it up a notch and buy a copy of the home version of EasyRecovery from Ontrack. Ontrack is one of the leading data recovery companies in the world.

But if time is more critical and money is no obstacle then bite the bullet and take your drive to a local computer shop that does recovery work. Or if that is not possible then contact a big service like Ontrack and ship your hard drive to them.

Data recovery can be expensive no matter who does it, so to be on the safe side and make file backups frequently and fully.
